O’Brien, who is aiming for a third win in the race, also runs Los Angeles, third-placed last year, but he will have to defy stall 14 to win. Aventure, who is just after the favorite in the betting, was handed gate 12. Chances of a maiden Japanese winner were dealt a blow, with the Japanese Derby winner, Croix Du Nord, and the Prix Foy winner, another, assigned in gates 17 and 15 respectively. Their compatriot Alohi Alii appears better placed in gate 4. André Fabre’s pair of Sosie and Cualificar fared better with gates 3 and 8 respectively, while Graffard's three Daryz, Quisisana and Gezora.
